Tidal waters, captured in clay.
This Blue Mussel Clay combines Sculpey III with crushed mussel shell fragments foraged by hand along Delaware Bay, New Jersey. Each block contains the shimmer and grit of mussel shells shaped by tide and sand, grounding your sculpting in coastal ecology.
Delaware Bay is one of the most significant shellfish estuaries in North America, sustaining wildlife and culture for centuries. The mussel fragments add flecks of deep blue, grey, and pearlescent silver, mirroring the tidal shifts of the Atlantic coast.
Fired, the clay reveals tiny speckles and subtle blue-grey tones—fragments of the shoreline embedded in the medium.
Available in three formats:
- 2 oz block – compact sample for sculpting or collecting
- 8 oz block – a larger quantity for extended work
- 2 oz Sunburst Clay + Mold Set – includes a reusable mold for casting a radial sunburst, highlighting shell flecks when fired
